Do you remember the first book that
ignited your passion for reading? For me, that book was a Goosebumps novel by
RL. Stine. His writing style was so captivating that I still have fond memories
of it today.
I first discovered Stine's works
through my uncle, who used to rent books and comics from a local store. As a
child, I was immediately hooked on the Goosebumps series and read them every
chance I got. Stine's ability to create realistic characters with vivid
descriptions made the stories come to life in my imagination.
As an adult, I still appreciate the
impact that Stine's writing had on me as a child. It helped me develop a love
for reading that I still have today. So, if you're looking for a good book to
spark your child's imagination, I highly recommend picking up a Goosebumps
novel by RL. Stine.
I won't be discussing Stine today.
Instead, I'd like to introduce you to a piece of teenage literature that I've
recently been reading. It's written by a well-known German author named Stefan
Wolf, whose real name is Rolf Kalmuczak. Rolf worked as an editor in a
newspaper agency, a lecturer, and also as a freelance writer for a series
called Jerry Cotton.
"The Adventures of STOP"
is a series about a teenage detective who likes to get involved in cases and
solve them with the help of others. The series contains over 20 titles, and I
recently read one called "Misteri Topeng Hitam” (i read the indonesian version one).
The narrative begins with a theft
case that is currently happening in the city where the STOP group resides. One
night, while Sporty, Petra, Oskar, and Thomas were riding their bikes on The
way back home, they crossed an elite complex and witnessed a strange scene.
They saw someone climbing out of the rooftop of one of the luxury houses. The
person was dressed in a black suit from head to toe. Sporty, being a Judo
athlete, was the first person to decide to capture the thief since he is
usually the one who assesses the situation.
Unexpectedly, on this occasion,
Sporty and his three friends met a woman in a black suit, whom they later
befriended. It turned out that the woman, whose name was Sabrina, was a former
circus performer who had switched careers to become a salesperson at an
insurance company.
Sabrina's boyfriend, Erich, also worked
at the same company and had a role in offering insurance services to wealthy
clients. However, his unusual advertising tactics were a cover for his secret
plan to rob these wealthy customers.
Through their newfound acquaintance
with Sabrina, Sporty and his group discovered the truth about Erich's scheme
and uncovered a gang of thieves.
Behind Sabrina's back, Erich worked
on a plan to earn more money by asking his ex-criminal friends to help him.
Sporty and his friends, who once visited Erich and Sabrina's house,
successfully stole a notebook containing the profiles of Erich's rich clients.
Sporty and his friends went through
all the addresses and phone numbers, trying to find out who Erich was and what
his true plan was. I can say that their adventure is worth reading. The
language is easy to understand, making it suitable for teenagers. If you are a
teacher, this book could be a good start for a reading lesson.
Each character has a strong
personality. As a teenage literature book, it shows us the new young spirit of
a detective. The cases might not be as tough as adult fiction detective
stories, but in my opinion, the setting and the idea fit in with the teenage
spirit.
Another wise message that I got from
this book is solidarity and togetherness. The STOP members have for each other
is a good example of a healthy friendship. Wolf also tries to give a message
about how important it is to care for the environment. Teenagers are the next
generation that everyone depends on. The idea of 'caring for your surroundings'
is a good message to instill in their minds.
It is of utmost importance that we
prevent our future leaders from losing interest in the world's affairs. We
cannot afford to let apathy take over the younger generation. We must not allow
our younger generation to become indifferent to global events.
Salam hangat dari kerajaan yang
jauh..
